Kylian Mbappe Beats Lionel Messi to Win 2022 World Cup Golden Boot
French striker Kylian Mbappe has been awarded the Golden Boot of the 2022 World Cup after scoring a hat trick for France in their World Cup final defeat against Argentina on Sunday finishing the tournament with eight goals.
Mbappe’s hat trick in the thrilling World Cup final against Argentina took his tally for the tournament to eight while Messi finished the tournament with seven goals.
The unique
thing is that Mbappe scored his sixth, seventh and eighth goals of the 2022
tournament in the same match. Thereby edging
out Argentina forward Lionel Messi,
who scored twice in the final getting the Golden Ball as the
tournament's best player.
The Golden Boot will be
the French footballer's only consolation as France was beaten 4-2 on penalties
by Argentina after a 3-3 draw.
Mbappe also made
history as he is only the second player to score a hat-trick in the World Cup
final, after Geoff Hurst, with England against Germany in 1966.
